Giant Eagle locations in the City of Pittsburgh will transition from plastic bags to paper bags when new legislation going into effect in October.

A person on “X” (formerly Twitter) posted a photo taken inside a Giant Eagle that states because of the plastic bag ban, beginning October 14, Giant Eagle stores within city limits will no longer be using plastic bags.

Giant Eagle is encouraging people to use reusable bags.

A spokesperson for Giant Eagle says stores outside of the city will continue to use plastic bags, for now.

Giant Eagle has already eliminated plastic bag use in its Erie stores, as well as in Cuyahoga County, Ohio.

In 2020, the Waterworks Giant Eagle location stopped using plastic bags.

The plastic bag ban in the city was set to begin earlier this year, but was delayed.
